Why is Whistler a good ski resort for school groups?
Whistler is a simply awesome ski resort. A quick glance at a piste map will show you that the resort base is in the shadow of two huge mountains, Whistler and Blackcomb. Your school group lift pass will grant you access to either mountain, as well as the spectacular peak to peak Gondola. Both mountains have different skiing - Blackcomb has more tree lined runs while Whistler has wide open vistas. Snow is consistently good, especially higher up the mountain where around 12 meters of fresh powder are dumped every winter! Here in Canada, the high level powder skiing is easily accessible for beginners too.
Getting to Whistler
Whistler has to be one of the easiest ski resorts in the world to get to. Admittedly your school will have a 10 hour flight to Vancouver, but once at the airport, transfers to resort are less than an hour as it really is just on the doorstep of this wonderful city.
For beginners
Whistler Blackcomb, like Banff, is a well thought out resort and perfect for school groups. Unlike many European ski resorts, first time skiers are not restricted to the lower half of the mountain. At Whistler, once you have found your balance, you can take the Harmony Express chair to the top of the mountain and ski all the way back down on a wide, and easy green trail that is always well maintained. This will give your students are real sense of achievement, especially if this is their first school ski trip.
There are good ski schools and beginner areas for first timers, with Whistler having the slight edge over Blackcomb when it comes to beginner friendliness.
Whistler resort is incredibly popular and can get extremely busy, especially during holiday periods. Infrastructure is very good so you won't have to queue too long for your next ride up the mountain.
