Why is Saalbach Hinterglemm a good ski resort for school groups?

The resort of Saalbach Hinterglemm is one of Austria's most popular ski destinations, with excellent facilities for skiers of all abilities. The two villages (Saalbach and Hinterglemm) offer superb skiing along an East West valley, with the South facing side getting more sun but the North side have better snow later in the season.

As a school group of first time skiers you are likely to begin your stay on the centrally located nursery slopes, before progressing higher up the mountain on the numerous exciting blue runs.

Getting to Saalbach Hinterglemm
Salzburg (or at a push Munich) Airport is your obvious route to Saalbach. Coach transfers from the airport takes between an hour and a half and a little over two hours, depending upon time of day and traffic.

For beginners
Overall we'd say that Saalbach Hinterglemm has some very good facilities for beginners and school groups. The nursery slopes that your students are likely to start the week on are at the same height as the villages, so you don't have a trek if you want a break or something to eat. Beginners are slightly better served at Hinterglemm where the nursery slopes are definitely wider and less crowded. There is a nice gentle lift too and all in all your get the feeling that as a beginner, you are very welcome, rather than the feeling you get in some resorts - that you are just getting in the way of the experts. Big thumbs up to Saalbach Hinterglemm for this! There are also plenty of blue runs higher up the mountain once you feel confident to leave the flat areas behind.

There are youth hostels and guesthouses aplenty in and close to resort. Most ski operators should be able to get your school group in a pretty central location, close to the facilities offered by the villages, ski hire venues and most importantly, the nursery areas and ski lifts.
